Hello! I'm Rhea and this is my little yuri corner, where I want to bring attention to girls' love works both new and old, as well as other LGBT-focused works. I'll try to keep regularly updating the site with new works + code functions, so stick around!

Contact: girls.love.rules@gmail.com

Hello there! Thanks for visiting my webpage; I do really appreciate it.
Over on this page I want to chart a little bit of information about the site!

My mission statement for this site is to try and gather as many yuri/GL reccomendations as I can from across the broad landscape. Generally, my rule is that if a work has/is GL and doesn't break my personal tolerances out the gate, I want to give it a shot. I hope to keep an open mind and an honest heart about works to get a full look at the yuri scene, even if it does burn me! The path of a yuri scholar is laden with trials. For those with objectionable or potentialy triggering content, they will be listed with appropriate content warnings.
That being said, I don't plan on this to become an exhaustive resource on all available yuri. The available selection will absolutely be influenced by my tastes and preferences, but I do hope to shine some light on lesser known (or completely unknown!) yuri titles that I think might be worth your time! I hope the little bits of insight and preview on each title help bring a new favorite romance book into your life!

Accessibility for these works is a bit mixed; while more and more books are available translated physically + via ebooks, many are in a fuzzy area of fan translation! I personally find a lot of my fan-translated works at dynasty-scans.com, though I've grown to prefer mangadex.org's library feature for organizing the works I'm reading. Books that are available with an official english market TL will be listed as such, and any others may be found in the company of privateers. (As always, please support the official release when possible! I hope to add the authors' social media and available avenues for tipping in the future.)

I have an ongoing list of yuri I'm making my way through, but just as well if you have a reccomendation for a work you'd like me to talk about on this site, please feel free to send it in at (girls.love.rules@gmail.com)!

Additionally, this site is my first attempt at programming HTML/CSS from scratch (You Probably Noticed). This site is a rebuild of the original Tumblr custom page I hosted the first couple of articles on; and as such carries a lot of that spirit. If you like the site but hate the look of it, or if it breaks in your browser in some way, please let me know (girls.love.rules@gmail.com) ! I wouldn't ask for a full course in web design for free, but bug reports are always appreciated. (I'm hoping to make it less boring in the future but as of right now the scrolling posts are being held together by duct tape + prayer)

(12/16/23) - Back In!

Hello yuri enjoyers, I'm alive! Hopefully folks have been reading cool books in the absence of new posts. The autumn has brought new changes in life; I started a new job! It's a really big time investment, but it's been rewarding so far. It isn't killing me, which is the important part. Unfortunately, getting used to the new situation has meant no time for reading yuri OR webdev ORZ. I have been watching some anime, though! Macross Frontier is really good, IMO. Aquarion... has limited volumes of yuri? Weird show, that one. Not exactly the kind of things I'd write about on this blog, but it's what I've got.

I'm hoping 2024 brings new horizons for yuriblog. A lot of new releases coming out (SHWD vol. 2!!) and holiday sales making things a bit more accessible. I'm really hoping to get my hands on copies of the Pulse series, and got the novel version of Otherside Picnic to read on the train! Things are already picking up. See you all next yuri!

(9/9/23) - Eternal Struggle

Life is hard, it turns out! A ton of long shifts + other circumstances have made it really tough to buckle down and read some yuri, so August was a bit of a dry month for me. Probably OK after a feverish July.

In other news I have been working on a couple of side projects! My old work laptop near caught fire last month (part of the delays), but I was able to do some surgery and remove its battery before anything too bad happened; this did mean I had to move a ton of my operating files over to my new PC. While that was a bit of a chore on its own, it's actually meant I have access again to a lot of my old art + data assets, so I've been hacking away at some other site designs for hosting those! I'm hoping that it'll boost my knowledge of CSS, but I tried to implement and immediately flunked a Javascript element so maybe I'll keep it simple. I don't have a particularly good coding brain.

Unfortunately in general I'll probably have to tone down the regularity of posting updates here a whole lot; I do love reading + talking about yuri but a huge bump in responsibilities and burning good daylight at work means I'm locked down most of the week. I'll be continuing the journey whenever I can though, so keep an eye out! Even if that doesn't come together, I plan on linking my sites together for ease of viewing, so new things are on the horizon! Thank you for reading here so far, those who've given it a chance!

(8/22/23) - Bearing The Blows Of Fate

If someone has a tip for how to avoid burnout in medical field work, please let me know -_-

Yuri returns, nominally! I've been able to keep reading enough that weekly updates are still possible. The site's getting a little unwieldy, though. Probably ought to add a search/tag function? Maybe it's more fun to just have The Scroll, though. Webtoon fans shouldn't have a problem with that one.

Wanna Quit Being a Hitman has concluded! I want to shout out that book, since it was genuinely one of my favorites to keep up with since starting this project, and I do think it ended on a high note. Here's hoping for the author's continued success.
Short blogpost this time, I guess. Here's to more yuri.

(8/4/23) - Short Hiatus

All my coworkers got covid on my days off! Whoops! I've been feeling the effects already the past couple of weeks but I'm going to be pulling overtime until conditions improve. Needless to say this will impact how much time I can put into the site. I do still plan on working on my writeups, though!

On the topic of one-shots; I've been exploring the Mangadex catalog for a few days to try and find more titles I want to review; lord knows there's a lot in that GL tag. I've come across a few very short one-shots recently, and I'm thinking that I probably won't be hosting mini-reviews for them over here, at least with the current entry format. Instead, I might try and use the cataloguing system over there and link to a dedicated list of shorter works and other one-shots I've been reading!

Other than that, I've still got a few personal projects up my sleeve! I'm hoping once I get some free time to add a few new features to the site over here (Games tab! Guestbook!) but some of those require Javascript functionality which is a whole other can of worms. I'll figure it out!

Other stuff I've been watching/reading recently: Outlaw Star, Blassreiter (Rewatch), Shin Kamen Rider
(It appears August is Boys' Month in VLC. Please save my soul.)

(7/23/23) - The Site Lives!

My sweet baby, she's finally ready to leave the nest. After a lot of hacking away + advice from a friend I was able to finally get this website looking stable, and god forbid functional at other aspect ratios. There's a mobile version! Wonders can happen when you kitbash code just right. From here on, I suspect it'll be smooth sailing until I decide to shake things up again and completely destroy the site; at least right now, there shouldn't be any outage/fucked up CSS periods barring my cat deleting the backup folder. I like the broad strokes of the site (though I think I'll be working on some new assets to spiff the place up; I suspect this shade of green might wear on the eyes a bit.)

I realise it's maybe a bit smoothed compared to other sites around, but it's the solution for the site format that worked best for me. I do want to find/make some fun stamps for the site, pop some art + other assets here and there; hopefully things aren't smooth for too long.

EDIT: Went ahead and added a jukebox to the site as well. If slightly to very angsty J-Rock isn't your thing while reading yuri, go put on some post rock or something. Get in the mood for longing.

Goals update!:

  • Visibility/accessibility concerns (font readability, alt text)
  • Create landing page + migrate library to /library instance
  • Make custom buttons or get better at hacking them out of code at pageload

(7/19/23)

Current goals are:

  • Implement dynamic post + image sizing
  • Finish the current major pages on the site
  • Improve navigation w/ a better sidebar
